About Isabel
Isabel is thirty snatches for time, and it is the most technically demanding of the single-movement benchmarks. The snatch takes a barbell from the floor to overhead in one movement, which means every rep is a full-body coordination problem — and thirty of them against a clock, with fatigue degrading your positions rep by rep, is a genuinely difficult thing to do well.
Why the snatch punishes fatigue
Whether you perform them as power snatches or squat snatches, the principle is the same: the bar goes overhead in one pull, and any rep where the arms take over instead of the hips is a rep that costs you two later. Isabel punishes technical decay harder than any other benchmark. Athletes who can snatch far more than the prescribed load routinely post mediocre times because their fifteenth rep looks nothing like their first.

Why singles win
Singles are almost always the right call. Unlike a clean and jerk, a snatch offers no natural rest position, so touch-and-go sets compound fatigue quickly and failed reps are both expensive and risky. Set a metronome pace — pull, receive, drop, reset, repeat — and protect your positions. The fastest Isabel is the one where rep thirty looks like rep one.
What's a good Isabel time
Under three minutes is a strong Isabel and the elite go under two. Three to five is a good competitive time, five to nine covers most consistent athletes. Scale the load without hesitation if the prescribed weight is above roughly sixty-five percent of your best snatch: this is a cycling test, not a max-effort session, and a workout that turns into thirty grinding singles has stopped measuring what it was built to measure.
